Simple fatty liver: In this type, the liver contains fat, but there is little or no inflammation in its cells, nor any damage. Generally, this type is not serious enough to cause harm or complications.
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD): This type involves inflammation and damage to liver cells, resulting in fatty liver tissue. The inflammation and cell damage can lead to fibrosis, or scarring of the liver. NAFLD can also cause cirrhosis or liver cancer.
Fatty liver due to alcohol
This disease is caused by excessive alcohol consumption. The liver is responsible for breaking down a large portion of the alcohol that enters our body; however, this process can generate harmful substances. These substances can damage liver cells, cause inflammation, and weaken the body’s natural defenses.
