6 warning signs that indicate fatty liver

In most cases, fatty liver disease is asymptomatic. This means that it’s difficult to detect until a person undergoes testing. Some tests used to diagnose this condition include:

Blood tests.
Liver ultrasounds.
Liver biopsies.
So there isn’t a specific set of warning signs that definitively indicate fatty liver. However, it’s worth noting that some patients do experience symptoms or health problems that could be related to fatty liver. Let’s look at them now.

1. Abdominal discomfort.
Based on the experiences of some patients, abdominal discomfort is believed to be one of the warning signs of fatty liver disease. This discomfort is not isolated; rather, it is often accompanied by other health conditions.

It is felt in the center or upper right part of the abdomen. However, it is not related to any specific activity or exertion. It may appear after eating because the stomach expands and presses on the enlarged liver.

2. Abdominal swelling.
Another possible warning sign of fatty liver is abdominal swelling, also known as ascites. This is caused by the accumulation of fluid between the visceral and parietal peritoneum and tends to be a consequence of liver disease.

The signs of ascites include:
Indigestion.
Abdominal bloating.
Shortness of breath.
Lower back pain.
Swelling in the ankles may also occur.
